How I teach
Lessons built around you
I don’t teach sight-reading or formal classical training. Instead, I help you build an intuitive understanding of music, through how it is put together: intervals, harmony and modes. The goal is a way of thinking that lets you compose, produce or play any kind of music.
Songs you already loveWe start with the music you listen to.More
I can work out most songs on the first listen, then arrange them to suit your level, starting simple and getting closer to the record as you improve.
How music worksNo grade exams. How music fits together.More
Lessons focus on how music fits together, from chords and rhythm to scales, modes and the fretboard, so you can learn any song and improvise over it.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Who are lessons for?
Children, teenagers and adults, from complete beginners to advanced players. For younger students, learning the songs they actually listen to is what keeps them practising.
Do you teach grade exams or sight-reading?
No. I teach applied theory: chords, scales, modes and how they fit together, so you understand what you play and can work out any song yourself. It’s how I learned, and it lets you play any style.
How long are lessons, and what do they cost?
Lessons last an hour. At your home in London they start from £130, which includes my travel, and I’ll confirm the exact figure for your area before we start. In my Maidenhead studio and online, they’re £80.
What happens in the first lesson?
We talk about the music you love and what you’d like to be able to play, then get straight into it. You’ll leave with something to practise and a plan for the weeks ahead.
Can I record a track with you?
Yes. When you’re ready, we record and produce a track together in my studio, so you have something finished to share.
